Ernst Bernard Venaton, Academy for Future Science, UN DPI/NGO Climate Change Conference
2007
There is a tendency for people to feel like there is nothing they can do, and that this world won’t change. I believe this is not true. We have the solutions at our fingertips.

I’m from Bogotá, Colombia and was invited to this Conference as a speaker on the water crisis and sustainable technologies that don’t require much infrastructure and investment.

For me, the key to sustainability is looking within. As a supervisor of one thousand people in a manufacturing facility, when I wanted to modify something, instead of looking for answers on the outside, I would start by asking people to assess the situation based on the knowledge they had. That empowered people to take ownership of the issue and motivated them to understand their weaknesses and their strengths.

When it comes to tackling climate change, it is easy to see that things are speeding up and yet there aren’t enough practical strategies to help us adapt. I have a child who is three-years-old. Looking at the world I’m going to leave my child, motivated me to act.
