Insurgentes, Mexico City
2005
In May of 2005, five years after World Leaders adopted the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) at the UN, and just a few months before the General Assembly would meet again to assess progress made, we wanted to know if people outside of the UN were informed about the MDGs, and how they believed the Goals could be achieved.

We began our journey at the busy metro station of Insurgentes in Mexico City, equipped with a panel listing the eight goals, a camera and tape recorder. Our brief conversations with passersby revealed that while most people had never heard of the MDGs, they were familiar with the issues and often felt personally affected by them. Their answers offer a glimpse of Mexico City’s inhabitants, and the global concerns that are close to home.
