Co-founders Gala and Shamina met through their work as members of the planning committee for the UN's annual Conference of NGOs associated to the Department of Public Information (DPI). In addition to helping to organize a dynamic conference at the UN, Shamina and Gala were determined to raise awareness about the Millennium Development Goals among the broader public.

The No Excuse Concert set a precedent for pro-active outreach in connection with the UN's Annual DPI/NGO Conference.
